A Simple Overview of Fingers
There are two types of hand skeletons for dolls: non-articulated wire hand skeletons and advanced articulated jointed hand skeletons.
The wire hand skeletons have been around a long time. They cannot bend naturally due to their linear stiff wires. Also, they are fragile and can damage the doll’s skin. So doll owners wanted something better.
In recent years, articulated jointed finger skeletons were introduced. These allow more natural, flexible finger movement. They are also more durable for longer lifespans.
In short, the articulated jointed fingers are superior. When choosing a doll, check the finger type to avoid outdated wire fingers that may break soon after use.
Fingers are not really a technology, they just add more joints, so the cost does not increase very much.
